A Vacation or a Retreat...Which One Do You Need?
You've been saying you need a vacation.
But what if what you actually need is something else entirely?
I've been watching a pattern for years - in my clients, in women who follow me, in myself. We work ourselves into the ground, hit a wall, and then book a trip thinking five days somewhere warm will reset everything. We come back tan, maybe a little rested, and within two weeks we're right back in the same fog. The only joy we find is often booking the next vacation.
A vacation didn't fix whatever was going on because what we needed wasn't a break from our life. We needed to go somewhere that would help us change it.
That is the difference between a vacation and a retreat.
A vacation gives you escape. A retreat gives you answers.
A vacation is a pause. It is beautiful and necessary and I am not knocking vacations; a huge part of my job as a travel concierge is to help people have AMAZING vacations. You get sun, rest, and hopefully distance from your inbox. When you come back, everything is exactly where you left it - the relationships that feel heavy, the business that feels stuck, and the roles that you are constantly performing.
A retreat is something different because it's intentional. It asks something of you. It puts you in a room with other people who are done pretending everything is fine, and with a facilitator who is not going to let you stay comfortable, and with enough space for you to hear the things you have been too busy to hear. You go in one way and you come out changed. It's not because something magical happened, but because you finally gave yourself the conditions to do the real work.
So how do you know which one you actually need?
Ask yourself these questions honestly.
You need a vacation if: You are physically exhausted and your body is asking for rest. You have been productive and you just need to play. You are generally content with your life and you want to celebrate or recharge. You need fun, novelty, and good food with people you love.
You need a retreat if: You have been feeling stuck in the same patterns for months or longer. You are achieving things on the outside but something feels hollow on the inside. You keep having the same arguments, the same spirals, the same self-sabotage. You cry in the car and you are not totally sure why. You feel like you are living someone else's life. You have been saying "I need to figure some things out" for over a year and nothing has shifted. You are exhausted in a way that sleep does not fix.
If you read that second list and felt something land in your chest — that is your answer.
Where I come in.
I do both. Over the next year, I have three opportunities for you...
Awaken Your Inner Artist: A Narrative Therapy Retreat in Lisbon and the Algarve, Portugal — July 19 to 26, 2026 Seven nights in one of the most soul-stirring countries in the world. We will move through a narrative therapy curriculum built around six phases: curiosity, mapping, storytelling, externalizing, reauthoring, and integration. You will write, you will cry, you will laugh, and you will leave with a story about yourself that finally tells the truth. We will visit Jerónimos Monastery, paint mosaic tiles, take a coastal boat tour in the Algarve, and cook together in Lisbon. This retreat is for the woman who is ready to rewrite her narrative.
HEAL: A Journey to Self-Healing, Ubud,Bali — August 10 to 20, 2026 Ten nights in one of the most spiritually charged places on earth. Bali is where something in you cracks open whether you are ready or not. This is our deepest immersion that includes yoga, somatic healing, sacred ceremony, and the kind of stillness that only comes when you are surrounded by rice fields and the sound of prayer. This retreat is for the woman who knows she needs something profound and is not afraid of what she might find.
Girls Trip! Punta Cana, Dominican Republic — February 15-21, 2027 This one is for the woman who wants community, joy, and a taste of transformation without the full deep dive. A week in my home in Dominican Republic with a small group of women who are looking for an escape. Think Api Beach, horseback riding through Miches, whale watching, a masseuse at the GORGEOUS villa, a private chef, and real conversations that you will be talking about for years. This is where the vacation and the retreat meet in the middle. (I haven't even built a landing page, and there are only two rooms left).
You do not have to keep taking trips that leave you feeling the same.
If something in this letter resonated, I want to hear from you. Reply to this email and tell me which one is calling you. We will figure out if it is the right fit and get you the information you need.
I'll see you on a boat somewhere...
With love,
Daniele
